Dates and numbers:
There are 2 days until your due date on July 26, 2008.
You are 278 days pregnant.
You are 9.1 months pregnant.
You are in your 10th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: October 20, 2007 to January 18, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: January 19, 2008 to May 02, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: May 03, 2008 to July 26, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
Your baby's crown-to-rump length at this time is approximately 14.4 inches and the total length is approximately 21.5 inches. The average baby weighs a little more than 7 pounds now and is preparing for birth. You are probably as big as you are going to get and may be uncomfortable now. Most women gain between 25 and 35 pounds during their pregnancy. Your uterus is about 7-8 inches above your bellybutton now.
Although your baby continues to grow and develop inside of your uterus, there is not much room for him to move about. All of your baby's organ systems are now complete and the lungs were the last to fully mature.
If you are uncomfortable with your pregnancy at this time, you are not alone. Most women are ready to deliver their babies. It would be very unusual for you to not be uncomfortable at this time. Your uterus has grown a lot and now fills your entire pelvis and abdomen. Try not to ask your doctor to induce you, unless it is medically necessary. Your cervix is ripening in preparation for delivery and your bladder is under a lot of pressure. You may feel nervous about the upcoming labor. You will know when you are in labor because contractions will get worse when you move around and they will also get stronger and more frequent. Other signs of labor are the breaking of your water or a bloody show as the mucus that plugged your cervix becomes dislodged.
Most of the lanugo on your baby should be gone by now. Your baby still may have some on his shoulders and in the creases of his body. Your baby's toenails have reached the end of his toes. The umbilical cord is about a half inch thick and may be wrapped around him. The umbilical cord still supplies the baby with nutrients that he needs. After delivery, your baby's umbilical cord will be clamped and cut. After it is cut, he will be an independent human being and must perform all of his body functions on his own. Your baby will get antibodies from your body that give his immune system a boost.

I'm officialy done answering my phone. How annoying is it for people to call and see if you've either had your child or how you're feeling. I feel like saying 'How did you effing feel at 40 weeks pregnant'. I'm so over this. If i had the child....you'd know. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!carolynjh -

Oh, and I got my membranes sweeped, let me tell you-if it doesn't hurt-they aren't doing it quite right! A female OB did it last week and was very gentle and I didn't feel much. This time I had my male OB and he did a really good sweep, then he asked if I wanted to go again and I said ok, let's get this party started and I almost ripped his arm off! I think she was gentle bc I was 38 weeks, but the closer you get the more willing they are to help you out!!! Hope it works, I'm still sore!carolynjh -

Went to my appt. 3rd week of progress but no labor. I am still 2cm, but went from 75 to 80% effaced (is there really a difference) and she moved back up a little and is less engaged! Great, that's what I wanted to hear. I asked if walking would help, he said it's not really a guarantee. :( Well, I'm not overdue yet so I guess I can't complain, but I'm sad because I was only gone 4 hours and like 5 ppl posted about their newborns!!!! I want her out NOW!!!!jekajoy -

Just got home from my ultrasound and 39 week appointment. Natalie is weighing in at 6 lbs and 1 oz (give or take 1/2 lb for accuracy?). My OB reviewed the ultrasound results and set my induction for tomorrow night! Yikes...definitely didn't expect that! She said the baby has gained 1 lb in 4 weeks and she's not getting the nutrition nor does she have any more room to grow in there. My amniotic fluid is at a really low level too. I'm only a fingertip dilated and still not thinning so I hpe my cervix cooperates! She would be better off with nutrition outside the womb. I'm going in tomorrow (Thurs) at 9 pm. I'm now officially nervous! taysonrex -

I think I've decided that no matter what, I'm coming back in here, and not moving onto week 40 ... I don't want to pass that day without my baby in my arms, and it's tomorrow!!!! Grr... if he comes tomorrow I'll be VERY happy, and not care that I didn't go early!!! The whole pregnancy I thought (foolishly) that I would be holding a baby by the 24th of July, and the thought of having to wait longer kills me!newmommy0723 -

First day in 39th Week. Still no dilation after yesterdays appt. Ultrasound did show baby girl has dropped and is in position they said so I'll take that for now. They measure her to be roughly 7lbs 10oz. We'll see how accurate that is. Congrats to everyone who has already given birth. What a blessing. singinghide -

After being induced at about 7 last night, I gave birth to Isaac James this morning at 4:04 AM. He weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz, and was 19 3/4 inches long. After 6 failed epidural tries, the 7th one finally worked! It was an amazing journey, and I'm so thankful for our little blessing!!!crazietink25 -

oh. p.s.: now that the baby has dropped, and the top of my belly under my ribs is no longer 'full', does anybody else have super-sensitive skin? It feels like all the skin under my boobs and about 4 inches down my belly is sunburned...but its not. Is this normal?dasha -

Mornin' Just checking in with everyone...seems like EVERYBODY but me seems to be dilated, effaced, ready, or scheduled for either a c/s or induction...so no fair. My belly feels VERY tight today, and I had a few shooting pains in my wazoo last nite, but other than that, nada. Have to say I'm a little nauseous today, and just really not feeling so hot. Maybe I shouldn't have had an omelet this morning....anyways. Am going to see my husband be a mascot today! He works for the police, and volunteered to be the mascot for a kids day, so I'm going to jump in a bus and head to the park...I think leaving the house and having some kind of activity will help. All I've done is hang around at home cleaning and taking the dog for bike rides for the past two weeks, so I think i'm itching for some action...Have a lovely day everybody! Here's hoping EVERYBODY goes into labor, because we're mostly all sick and tired!woopsiebaby -

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! Well, we had Camryn Friday the 18th at 8:28am. She weighed 6 lbs., 15 oz., 21 inches long. She is so beautiful! We are in full swing of moving out of our house. They took my bed at 7:30 this morning! I am staying at a relatives tonight. The baby is doing great. I've had some yucky pain after the c-section, but it's getting better. I posted some pictures of Camryn on my profile. Hope you are all doing well. It feels very strange not to be pregnant. GOOD LUCK LADIES! It's worth the wait!!!taysonrex -

Well ladies, I'm still here ... apparently my day and a half long contractions were a false alarm. They got to the point where I had to breathe to get through them, and they were that way for about an hour, and I had told hubby to go make sure his bag was packed, but then stopped. We went and walked around the mall for 2 hours, and I got some small contractions last night, but nothing big. That was a disappointment, my due date is tomorrow and I was really hoping I would go by then. mommyxs3 -

It was his birthday and I told him it could wait but he went ahead and did it because he said it made him happy to see me so excited. Soooo...it's up. :) I love him. Now, if I could only get this little one to understand how excited I would be to see her! haha. Dr. tomorrow..wish me luck ladies!Alicia23 -

I was supposed to be at the hospital for an induction at 8:00 am this morning but the hospital called me at 10:30 pm last night and told me that all the rooms were full and to call before I came in. I called this am and all the rooms are still full. Now, I have to wait until someone is released, and then they will call me to come in. This sucks!carolynjh -

False alarm! Hubby and I did baby dance last night, woke up at 2am and was in major pain with contractions, lasted about an hour on and off, then I fell asleep on the couch :( I thought today was the day! Have an appt in 2 hrs, hopefully more progress has been made, maybe they will do a sweep! Mom coming today, don't want to make her wait too long!hayleyredfern -

Here I am at 4:30 in the morning wide awake. Baby has been moving like crazy, still hasn't dropped. I'm starting to wonder if she'll come on her own. I really don't want to be induced but I don't want to go to 42 weeks either. I have an appointment in a few hours, so we'll see how that goes. Dreamt that they didn't even check me for dilation or anything...sad how everything I dream is about the pregnancy LOL Breakfast time I suppose?megcantwaitforherfirst -

Okay.. went to the doctor the other day because i was having major cramps that i could not get rid of.. apparently they were contractions but no progress is being made here, no dialation... i felt like such a dummy!! Oh well, better safe than sorry i guess. I have my next appt on Friday and I am due on Monday... we will see what she says. It is now 11:30pm my husband is asleep and I cannot sleep... I cant get comfortable... I just cramp but it is not constant enought to be the real contractions... so i am up watching Jay Leno... and going to the bathroom every 10 minutes it seems...

Venting...I've been up since 5:15 this morning. I went to work at 7:30, worked until 2, went to the dr, took my daughter to get her allergy shots, and came home and cooked dinner. Then we had to race off to go to open house at her summer program where it was at school that has no air conditioning and it was 95 degrees today. She performed a dance routine and there weren't enough seats so I stood most of the time until a nice man finally offered his seat. Then we have to walk around and up 3 flights of stairs to visit her other classes. I have the waddle going on and am very slow and she just leaves me behind. Then there is a bad storm and it wipes out the power lines in the area so no gas stations' credit card machines are working and my gas light has been on since I left this morning and I have no cash! I cried all the way home in fear of running out of gas and just b/c of exhaustion. The DH couldn't make it b/c he had to work late. I came home crying I told him to just leave me alone. Tomorrow must be better! Thanks for listening!melissa-xo -

So my Doctor is going to induce me on the 31st... she is going to just break my water... I don't really have enought faith that, that will be aggressive enough to bring on labor... and I DO not want cytotec OR pitocin... *grumble*... I know with an induction your chances of c-section are greatly increased... *crossing fingers that baby will come on her own*...mommy-of-3 -

Doctor said to expect some light spotting and cramping tonight after having the membrane sweep done. I am having this but when I went to wipe after I used the bathroom I noticed there are these tiny 'speckles' of what looks like some sort of tissue along with the light pink discharge. Did anyone else have this who had their membranes sweeped????jaedensmommie -

Hi everyone...I'm new here. 39 1/2 weeks. I have been getting contractions since last Friday the 18th that come and go. I one point I thought my water had a leak cause I felt liquid trickling out but my dr says that it was probably 'other' fluids not my water. I went to the hospital and when they hooked me up to the monitors the nurse asked if I was in pain because I was having contractions. I had been feeling sore and was getting pain in my side, back and stomach but not too bad. Well they sent me home and my pains stopped that night. I have a dr appt tomorrow morning and will ask him to check me again to see if Ive dilated anymore. Last week I was only at 1 cm with 50% effaced. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one and that are others going through similar circumstances.emilyanne -

I am nervous for tomorrow. I feel like I could go into labor later tonight though. I have had bad stomach pains and back pains all day today. Nothing too intense just enough to make me feel sick to my stomach. They are not low though they are all over even up high but the back pain is lower. Ugh I just feel like I need him out. Hopefully these contractions dialated me even more for tomorrow.PRFLAVA -

SO IF I DONT GO INTO LABOR HES GONNA INDUCE ME. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTS ME TO HAVE THE BABY B4 MY 42ND WEEK. I TOLD HIM THAT I WANNA HAVE IT BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY WHICH IS THE 4, SO WE'LL SEE! I want to thank you all for the advice on the induction. I found out the drug is called cytotec and is an anti-ulcer med. Also that it can cause birth deffects and is used for abortions. The FDA strictly says not to give it to pregnant women. I talked to the nurse and she said she would have to talk to the dr to figure out another plan. I told her I wasn't comfortable with the idea of induction unless necessary and even then I would want something that is FDA approved. I should hear from them tomorrow and hopefully they have me set up with another doctor until my doctor gets back. I'll tell you this much though...I will never go to this doctor again and I'm not even sure I would want her to deliver my baby after this. She obviously isn't thinking about the health of me or the baby.mommy-of-3 -

Well I just got back from my dr appt. I'm dialated to '2' today and he did the membrane sweep which was a little painful but nothing that was untolerable or anything. (He told me to expect some light spotting and cramping tonight.) I took my walk last night, hubby & I did the bd this morning, and now I'm going to take the kids & dog out for another long walk. Come on baby! lol..Angelia -

Wow... I agree, what's up with some of these Doc's. I know my Doc didn't discuss induction until today and that's only because my body is having the same problem my mom's had (she didn't dilate or efface until she was given drugs after we were already stressing and were almost emergency c-sectioned out). I'm a high risk pregnancy due to age, prior m/c, and some of my more recent exams/tests are coming back showing increased risk. My induction is to try to prevent an emergency c-section. I'm waiting as long as possible (another week) and even then it's my choice and has nothing to do with my doctor's schedule.mommad -

Had my appt today. No changes from last week. I had some protien in my urine so I have to go back tomorrow. The dr guessed based on the size of my first baby and the size of my bump that she's about 8.5-9 lbs. She said that it's easier to push out 2nd babies, so I guess I'll be okay. Still kinda scared though. She also told me not to get discouraged that I haven't dilated anymore in the last 2 wks. She said it could still happen at any time!Heather-08-01 -

Dasha, according to the info under fitness - what's safe it says the only danger with cycling is the risk of falling - nothing about smooshing his head =D As long as you feel comfy with it, I'd say it's fine, but ask you Dr if you're really concerned. I'm too clumsy to look at a bike right now - much less ride one!
