Dates and numbers:
There are 14 days until your due date on October 21, 2008.
You are 266 days pregnant.
You are 8.7 months pregnant.
You are in your 9th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: January 15, 2008 to April 14, 2008. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: April 15, 2008 to July 28, 2008. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: July 29, 2008 to October 21, 2008. (28 - 40 weeks)
You are considered full-term now and your baby's final touches are being made. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is now 14 inches and the total length is around 21 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 6.5 pounds. Your uterus may be measuring about the same as it has been and is probably about 6.5 inches from the top of your bellybutton.
This week your baby should engage into your pelvis. If this is not your first pregnancy, it may happen later. When your baby engages, his head drops down into your pelvis and you might feel a slight sensation called `lightening` as the pressure on your ribs eases. As your baby drops into the final position for delivery, you may experience a buzzing feeling and shooting pains in your groin and leg. Normally, you will be able to breathe and eat easier. However, your uterus pushes down harder on your bladder and you will have an increased urge to urinate more frequently. Even if your baby engages now, you still possibly feel his feet in your breastbone around week 40.
Your baby is now fully mature and ready to be born. However, your baby is still growing and developing every day. Fat is still being laid down at a rate of a half ounce a day. If this is your first pregnancy, you can expect to deliver closer to 40 weeks or shortly thereafter. If this is not your first baby, you might go earlier than 40 weeks! Make sure that your bags are packed for the hospital and remember to preregister for admission.
Your doctor may begin doing weekly pelvic exams to evaluate your cervical changes and progression. Your healthcare provider will make sure that you are not leaking amniotic fluid and will also examine your cervix to check for effacement and dilation. Before labor, your cervix is thick and 0% effaced. During labor your cervix thins out and right before delivery it will become very soft and 100% effaced.
Research shows your baby can be affected by stress hormones. Make time to relax, to have fun, and to rest.
Your baby has learned to coordinate sucking, swallowing and breathing so it can do all three when
breastfeeding after birth. Babies practice shallow breathing before birth, using amniotic fluid.
Almost there! Did you know that we also have a month by month calendar for babies? You can find it in the menu under `Babies`:

Last day in week 37, first day of maternity leave, woo hoo! I slept so well last night knowing I didn't have to go to work today! Now I just have to wait till Wed. for my 38 week check-up and 2nd membrane stripping. Maybe I'll be spending our Canadian Thanksgiving in the hospital! Well back to chasing my 17 month old, she's gotten a hold of a pen and is trying to draw on the wall and she's ripping her book and telling me no when I take it away from her. Terrible twos are kicking in! LOL!!!jillyzbean3 -

I asked about fetal movement yesterday, called my nurse, and they rushed me to L & D. They did an NST, for a good 2 hours, but baby was still moving. Phewwwwwww...I felt pretty stupid, but serisouly can't feel the movement anymore. At least I know she is still moving. Anyway, so tired I took the day off, and actually, wrote my doc an email asking for a note to release me from work early. Am I too early to go on leave? I feel a bit guilty.BabyEby3 -

Baby has not dropped at all he/she is still so far up in my ribs everytime I lay down it hurts so bad. Maybe it has dropped and just out of room I dont know but when I try to push baby down it kicks me hard doesnt like to be messed with LOL. I know I will miss all this when baby is born but it is so hard to enjoy when it hurts so bad.aanaka -

taniar82~ OMG lol. Ok if it gets that bad I might try that. Thats weird but it makes sense! I might get desperate enough just to be able to sleep a little better. Imagine if human women did what female cats do when we want babies!!! I really don't like cats and I really don't want this cat in my house but she is my fiance's cat. I know it is cruel but if it were left to me I'd have her in the American Classifieds by now as a give away. I tolerated her before I got PG but that maternal instinct is really kicking in full force and I don't want her anywhere near my baby's stuff. Of course she wants to be all in it.mommatiff3 -

aanaka, I use to volunteer in a catery something you might find useful, try to insert a cotton bud into your cats bits. You only have to do it once (not nice i know) and it fools her body into thinking she has mated, she might stop calling then xxxkelly-roo -

My cat had kittens about 9 weeks ago. We just got rid of the last 2 last week and she is already in heat!!! She is driving me nuts with all her howling and crying for a man kitty. The clinic won't spay her until her milk has been left alone for 2 whole LONG weeks. We still have another week left before she can be spayed. Being huge and pregnant and a cat that can't be fixxed yet sure is going to make for a LONG week ahead of me.roro73 -

I have been very very thirsty lately... i wake up 5 times a night to drink a big glass of water each time... then wake up 5 times to pee as well. It sucks... but is there a reason why I'm so freaking thirsty? I drink at least 6 bottles of water a day... and 5 big glasses of water at night. I don't get it. I have to sleep alone with my dog for the next 4 days :( My husband has to go on a buisness trip... I just hope I don't go in labour while he's gone. I doubt I will but who knows. heh. Anyway that's it for me. Hope you're all doing wellroro73 -

I was in you shoes almost 3 months ago and believe me ladies i know what your troubles. just wanted to say hang in there. Pack a snack for after delivery and maybe sneak in a bite in during the long hours they refuse to feed you in the LD rooms and know that you'll look back in a few months and smile because they little person sleeping on your shoulder, and that will have made it all worth while. Not right away but in it takes about three month to forget all the discomfort. Hang in there! I was induced labored for 3 days at 39 weeks only reached 1 cm, two days before my due date c section.cat4e1221 -

Grumpy grumpy grumpy grumpy..... aaaagghhhhhh
A door to door salesman just turned up - talk about pushy and not listening to what I had to say. Well, after an initially polite reception he ended up with the door in his face. Actually, that made me feel a little better.
I am SO hormonal, anxious, upset, STRESSED, NOT COPING. This is so NOT me normally. WHAT CAN I DO?babybrooklyn -

Hi, Ladies thought I would pop on here for a couple of mins since I still can't sleep. My 18 month old daughter and I are both Super sick since late Thursday night with Vomiting Fever, sore throat and runny nose :o( I spent about 4 hours in the hospital last night with my little girl because her fever got up around 104 we got it to go down a little to 102.9 and the hospital didn't do nothing at all for her really....:0( So I have been sleeping with her in my bed and my hubby in the guest bedroom for the past few nights and last night around 3:30 am her fever shot back up and I had to strip her down give her a cool bath and basically have to hog tie her to get some Motrin down her throat. Poor thing she is so fed up with having to take tylenol/ and then motrin every few hours. And now Myself I am over the nausea mostly and just have a horrible runny nose, fever and sore throat. I am so worried about this I have a check up Tuesday afternoon but I am gonna call them in the morning to see if the doctor can prescribe something and call it in, or just delay the checkup cause I don't want to come in there and get other pregnant women sick I wouldn't wish this on anyone.... And the worse part is not this Thursday coming up but the 16th I am having a planned c-section to have my baby. OH this is just Terrible It would figure Sorry so long of complaining but I just had to vent Hope all you other ladies are staying healthy

DESPERATE FOR ADVICE!!! So I was having cramps around noon today and the got worse over time. By 6 my lower back was hurting soo bad and I kept going to the bathroom thinking I was going to poop and nothing came out. I'm a high risk pregnancy, so I called and spoke to the oncall dr. He examined me on Thursday and I was 4cm and 90% effaced, so he told me that I needed to go in because it sounded like I was getting ready to have the baby. Well I got there and only had 2 contractions and I only progressed to 4 cm and 100% effaced. So he told me to go home BUT he went ahead and scheduled me to be induced on Monday October 13th. He also said that it would be a miracle if I dont have my boy before then. My dilemma is this, if I dont have him by Monday, should I just wait for my water to break on its own? I've been reading on induction and I'm seeing that you can be in labor longer that way than you would if you waited it out and let it happen. This is my first, so I dont know what to do. HELP PLEASE!kaycie1 -

yeah i heard that too. my hubby wouldnt do it though, he would just talk to the very bottom of my stomach. but i dont think that it worked. the longer u stay pregannt the more of a chance that it will turn on its own. are u considering a external version if it doesnt turn?britbrit3 -

hope it works for u, i know how it is to be stressed that the baby wont turn. i had like 5 ultrasounds in the last month, just to check and mkae sure that she was still transverse, then once she turned then did like 3 more to make sure that she hadnt turned back. i am glad this baby is head down this time, i pray it stays that way. the dr can already feel its head and everything so hopefully it stays put.joje -

joje- my third baby was transverse and i tried everything u could possibly do , besides the external verision by the dr. i heard that swimming was good to do, but it was winter then so i couldnt do it. but... the thing that i think turned her, was having really good sex.lol. it sounds funny, but i know she was still sideways in there the day before, me and my hubby had really good sex ( i think it was my having a strong orgasm that did it tmi?) then she turned. so i dont know if u have tried that yet... but its worth a trykaycie1 -

My husband & I both were nesting like mad today. Got so much stuff done. Yay us. My baby is breech so I was trying things to get her to turn. I feel mean putting frozen foods where her head is but- that was one home remedy that I was told to try. I try having talks with her telling her it is for the good of both of us. Lol. Doubt she understands....denswife -

Just wondering how many of you ladies plan on having relatives and/or in-laws around when you deliver? I only want my husband next to me. We don't plan on calling anyone to the hospital until our little girl is borned. I just know my family will annoy the heck out of me if we call them and I'd rather try to focus on getting the baby out or resting then deal with them.amycakes -

It is very common for pregnant women's feet to grow longer. Not just from swelling, but they will actually increase in size. They won't go back to your old shoe size either so you will have to suffer through buying a whole new stash of shoes in your bigger size. I am very sad mine grew bigger, but that is because they are now a size 11. miiluv21 -
